Franco Manca - Superb sourdough pizza in London

June 02, 2017

It was a cold blustery day and I was hanging on to my umbrella trying to catch up with the other half as he darts in front escaping its cover. Why do I even try?

It was 3 pm and we were hungry but a beer was what we were after and we passed this restaurant vowing to return. The aromas that exuded from the open door was just so intoxicating... you know, the smell of fresh bread, basil, and that pancetta or whatever-sliced-wonder they top their pizzas with.

Well, we did go to Porterhouse just down the road, and their selection was just amazing, given the porter fan that I was. But we came out slightly underwhelmed with the food, and guess where we ended up?

As much as my eyes desired, we both had the space for just one pizza, and that too was pushing our belt-line. But holy mother-dough, this was out of this world! The crust was so delicious, just on its own. And the minimal topping they scattered on it served not as a highlight nor drown the plane it was on, rather to accentuate the amazing dough that it was.

And that burrata - mind blowingly good!

Yes, authentic it probably wasn't and some Napolis would be turning in their graves to know that their beloved pizza dough has been perverted in this fashion. But this was to me, pizza 2.0, for it was just taken to another level when they actually brought 'taste' to the dough.

I shall return!
